StarRotor, a ClimateTech energy-conversion systems developer and low carbon solutions provider startup, proudly announces its strategic collaboration with Shell, a global leader in energy and petrochemicals, aimed at advancing the emerging hydrogen industry. This groundbreaking collaboration focuses on the development of a First-of-a-Kind (FOAK) hydrogen compressor tailored for the Heavy-Duty Vehicle Hydrogen Refueling station (HDV HRS) market. The collaboration stands poised to drive rapid decarbonization within the HDV transportation sector.
After rigorous research, innovation, and collaboration, the newly designed hydrogen compressor has moved into the validated concept phase, taking it one step closer to fabrication. The compressor’s unique “Gerotor” design allows for high pressure ratios and high throughput in a compact footprint while performing at high efficiency even with hydrogen. StarRotor and Shell are now preparing for the testing phase, which will demonstrate the compressor’s efficiency and reliability under a wide operating window.
“This collaboration marks a pivotal moment in our quest to accelerate the energy transition,” stated Leo Pirela, CEO of StarRotor. “Our joint efforts with Shell represent a fusion of expertise and commitment that addresses a critical need for the HDV hydrogen transportation infrastructure. We believe this technology will have a massive impact on emissions reductions in that sector.”
The HDV transportation sector demands solutions capable of delivering high-performance hydrogen compression to facilitate efficient and rapid refueling. The StarRotor and Shell collaboration aims to address these demands head-on with a compressor that boasts enhanced efficiency, affordability and reliability that will all be crucial for widespread adoption.
