OTC - Tuesday, May 01, 2007StarRotor equipment displayed at Offshore Technology Conference.
StarRotor receives its fourth customer. - Tuesday, November 21, 2006StarRotor will design and build a specialized 18-hp ethanol compressor.
StarRotor receives its third customer with the potential for multiple orders. - Monday, October 09, 2006StarRotor will design and build a compact, two-stage, 250-hp compressor that processes 700-SCFM air from atmospheric to 300 psig.
StarRotor is featured in the magazine Popular Science. - Wednesday, August 16, 2006StarRotor's engine has been mentioned as a contender to help vehicles get to the 100mpg mark. The article can be viewed here or you can pick up a copy of Popular Science.
StarRotor uses Design II from WinSim Inc. for process and physical property calculations. - Monday, July 31, 2006StarRotor has started using DESIGN II from WinSim Inc. to help aid in design. WinSim's software is well-proven, full-featured, and easy-to-use. Please visit their website for more information.
Sustainable Energy and Transportation: Engineering the 21st Century. - Wednesday, June 07, 2006Dr. Holtzapple was honored by being selected as a distinguished lecturer at Texas A&M University. His lecture was titled "Sustainable Energy and Transportation: Engineering the 21st Century." Thanks to Texas A&M, it can now be viewed here.
Generation 5 compressor is operational. - Friday, May 12, 2006Technical Milestone: the Generation 5 compressor achieved an energy efficiency of 81.8% (Note: This efficiency has not yet been independently confirmed by a third party). Our closest competitor is a screw compressor, which typically has an energy efficiency of 70 to 80% and costs three times more to manufacture. This is impressive especially because of the small size of our compressor (~10 hp at test conditions). Click here for details.
StarRotor's first order! - Friday, May 12, 2006A major oil company placed an order for a 200-hp natural gas compressor that will be tested at Southwest Research Institute before being put into service.
StarRotor's second order! - Thursday, May 04, 2006Gooseneck Trailer placed an order for a 50-hp StarRotor air compressor, which will be used to manufacture agricultural trailers.
StarRotor is news. - Monday, September 12, 2005A local news station (KBTX TV3) aired a piece on StarRotor. We were delighted with the outcome so we decided (with KBTX's blessing) to put it on the site. Please click here to view (file size 4.9 MB, .WMV format).
Our mill has arrived! - Saturday, July 09, 2005This past week was a good one for StarRotor. The mill that we ordered has come in, and we are in the process of installing, testing, and running it. The new mill is a Makino S56. It is another vertical mill, but it is engineered to be a high-accuracy production type machine. It's accuracies are guaranteed at 60 millionth's (0.00006) of an inch, which physically is the size of some bacteria. Our immediate plan is to make high precision parts with this mill and test them with our third-generation compressor. We should see significant gains in efficiency so check back soon for the results.
New website is here! - Thursday, June 09, 2005
StarRotor has teamed up with Ikona Gear. - Tuesday, February 01, 2005Ikona Gear has designed a near-zero backlash gear that can be used in our compressors, expanders, and engines. The benefits of Ikona's near-zero backlash gear is an increased life and possibly better efficiency. We look forward to working closely with Ikona Gear to incorporate their superior gearing system into our products.
